Cybertruck Powershare Home Backup: Requirements, Cost, Runtime

What Powershare needs (Gateway, Universal Wall Connector, a certified installer), what 11.5 kW runs, and how many days a Cybertruck keeps a house going.

Updated October 27, 2026 · By the OutageWatt team · How we calculate

In short

Powershare lets a Cybertruck feed your home at up to 11.5 kW through Tesla's Gateway and Universal Wall Connector, installed by a Tesla Certified Installer. With about 123 kWh reported and 20% kept to drive, that is roughly 3.1 days of an average home's full load, or more than a week of essentials.

What you need

  • Powershare Gateway (or a compatible Tesla backup device) to isolate your home from the grid.
  • Universal Wall Connector, which handles the bidirectional flow.
  • A Tesla Certified Installer. Installer FAQs also report a main panel under 225 A and a single-family home as typical conditions.

Tesla's support pages returned errors to our research tools, so requirements and costs here come from installer and press sources, flagged as reported. Check tesla.com before you order.

With a Powerwall 3

Since September 10, 2026, Powershare is reported to work alongside a Powerwall 3: the battery takes the first hours and instant switch-over, the truck tops it up through a long outage. It also means you can drive away and still have the Powerwall at home. Compare home batteries on our comparison page.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for Cybertruck Powershare home backup?

Tesla's Powershare Gateway (or a compatible Tesla backup device), a Universal Wall Connector, and installation by a Tesla Certified Installer. Third-party installers report requirements such as a single-family home and a main panel under 225 A; Tesla's site is the final word.

How much does Powershare cost?

The Home Backup bundle hardware has been reported around $1,970–1,990, and about $4,000 installed in typical cases; quotes vary widely with your panel and distance from the garage. These are reported figures, not Tesla prices.

How long can a Cybertruck power my house?

Tesla says up to 3 days for a home using 30 kWh a day. Our estimate with a 20% driving reserve is about 3.0 days at 30 kWh/day, and much longer if you only back up essentials.
