Why it matters in an outage
Cable and fiber networks have their own battery backup in street cabinets, often good for a few hours. In a multi-day outage those go dark too. A satellite dish on its own battery doesn't care: it needs only power and a view of the sky, which makes it the internet you can still count on to check outage maps and reach family.

Does Starlink work during a power outage?
Yes, as long as the dish and router have power and the satellites are overhead: Starlink doesn't depend on local cable or fiber equipment, which often runs on limited backup batteries during long outages.
How long will a power station run Starlink?
A Standard dish averages about 75–100 W, so each 1,000 Wh lasts roughly 8.8 h; a Starlink Mini at 25–40 W lasts about 22 h per 1,000 Wh. Both use the conservative top of their range.
